Malaysian Beer

Malaysian beer

Interestingly, the most popular beers in Malaysia are owned by foreign companies, such as Danish Carlsberg and Heineken-owned Anchor Beer, which is brewed in neighboring Singapore. Many other Asian countries also locally produce and sell their brands in Malaysia, like Thai-owned Singha and Leo, or the Philippine brands Stag and San Miguel.

Bottled beer is the most popular packaging in Malaysia, with draught beer accounting for only around 12% of the market. Also popular are a range of shandies, which are canned beers mixed with lemonade.

Chang Beer
This 5% beer, traditionally a Thai brew, is locally brewed in Malaysia by Carlsberg. Carlsberg claims to brew it in Malaysia to suit Malaysian tastes, making it full-bodied with a little more bite than its Thai counterpart. It has a distinctively smooth and refreshing taste with a golden yellow color.

Tiger Beer
Tiger Beer originates in Singapore but is also brewed locally in Malaysia for the Malaysian market. Tiger is becoming very popular across Asia as its owners, Asia Pacific Breweries, continue to set up breweries all over the continent. Tiger is also one of the more popular Asian beers exported from Asia.
