Dining in Japan can be a great adventure, many people believe
that the Japanese only eat raw fish or sushi, this can be
further from the truth and if you ever walk the streets of Tokyo
you may even find that sushi may not even be on the menu across
many traditional Japanese restaurants.
Small cafes known as a Gyudon (meaning beef bowl) cafe are
becoming popular with busy Japanese businessmen and students,
these shops sell a range of quickly prepared food from curried
beef to fried chicken. Some Gyudon even use a ticket machine
outside the shop for you to order your food, by the time you
enter the shop your side dish of a salad or soup would be ready
to be served. These cafes are cheap and easy for any non
Japanese speaking tourist, just make sure the vending machine
has a picture of what you are purchasing.
If you still feel the need for western food their are many
restaurants serving authentic foreign cuisine like Italian,
German or English. If you need a Hamburger, instead of going to
the Mc Donald's or Burger King chain that seem to be on every
corner why not find one of Japan's own burger chain like Mos
Burger or Freshness Burger. The taste of a teriyaki burger cant
be beat.
